Patrick Richardson, Founder and Managing Director at The States, brings over 20+ years of expertise as an agency practitioner and leader of advertising, branding, design, digital product, marketing, and public relations firms. Throughout his career, he has assisted clients in identifying, conceptualizing, and developing brand and digital competitive advantages, leveraging design and agile principles to deliver breakthrough outcomes. With a proven track record of achievement, Richardson has led international teams of researchers, designers, marketers and engineers, fostering collaboration to imagine and build premium experiences.
As Fractional Managing Director of The States, Patrick is dedicated to helping agencies abroad enter and navigate the lucrative US market. The States provides a range of services to support agencies, including setting up local operations, finding banking, insurance, and legal services, identifying and recruiting top talent, assisting in senior-level pitches, setting up partnerships, facilitating local meetings, and driving sales and marketing efforts.
As a Managing Director and Global CMO at hedgehog lab from 2015 to 2024, Patrick built the US and Americas operations from the ground up, growing revenues from $0 to over $3.2 million annually. He was responsible for all client strategy, account management, marketing, and operations, including P&L, insurance procurement, banking, legal standards, price definition, HR platform implementation, global subcontractors, hiring local talent, and third-party consultants to build premiere mobile, web, AI, and connected device applications.
Prior to hedgehog lab, Patrick held various leadership roles at Oomph, Inc., Schneider Associates, Swirlingmedia, ASRI, and RCI. In these roles, he led business strategy, UX/UI design, marketing, and creative direction for clients across various industries. He has a strong track record of pitching and winning new business, developing and executing integrated marketing strategies, managing teams, and presenting to private equity partners and boards on a weekly and monthly basis.
Throughout his career, Patrick has driven innovation, strategy, design, marketing, and digital products for global brands and companies, including Baileys, Baskin-Robbins, Davidson Kempner, Edwards Lifesciences, Gunk, IBM, Network Solutions, Liquid Wrench, Medifast, New England Journal of Medicine, Globe Life, NBC, Santander, Sprint, Titleist, and Woolite.
Patrick holds a B.F.A. in Communication Design from Syracuse University and an M.A. in Integrated Marketing Communication from Emerson College.
As an avid traveler, Patrick has explored cities and landscapes across the globe, capturing cherished memories in destinations like United Kingdom, Europe, the Caribbean, Central and South America, and India. Beyond travel, he has witnessed legendary artists in over 200 live concerts, taking in unforgettable shows such as B.B. King's soulful blues, Nirvana's raw grunge and U2's passionate hometown performance in Dublin. Additionally, Patrick's passion for sports has taken me to numerous domestic and international events, including the historic Super Bowl 51 twenty-three point comeback of the New England Patriots in Texas, frequent visits to Newcastle United's cathedral St. James' Park and last year's Boston Celtics Finals in the Boston Garden. In all these experiences, he's forged connections with countless individuals from diverse corners of the globe.
Patrick lives with his wife and daughter in a seaside town just north of Boston, Massachusetts. He also owns a small lakefront cabin in mid-coast Maine where the family spends a large amount of their summer months.
